Court Records

The Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Circuit Court is responsible for processing circuit court case records, among other duties. Court records are documents generated during legal proceedings, such as criminal case files, bankruptcy records, and records from family or probate court.

They contain information about these legal proceedings, including names of the parties involved, dates of hearings, testimony and evidence, and rulings in cases. Court records are kept in office for a period of time and then disposed of or archived. Most are considered public records, though some information may be redacted when copies are provided to the public. In some cases, court records may be sealed and require a court order to access, but many others can be accessed easily online. Juan Fernandez-Barquin is the current Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Miami-Dade County court records may be accessed online. The Miami-Dade Clerk of the Courts offers access to advanced options in the clerk’s internet-based systems. This includes advanced access to Civil, Family and Probate court records as per the current version of the Florida Supreme Court Standards for Access to Electronic Court Records and the Access Security Matrix, free of charge. Other advanced options include the ability to perform advanced searches of Official Records by purchasing search units which cost $0.50 each, and the ability to bookmark criminal cases for easy access and enable notifications on case information updates.

Requests for copies of court records can be done without registering an account online. All that is required is a name of the party involved, the date the document was filed. Certified records are stamped by the custodian of records to indicate they are true copies of the originals. The certified records can be requested online from the web page containing the non-certified document.
